A static IP keeps port forwarding rules valid even after a reboot.
Two ways
- DHCP reservation (preferred): the router always assigns the same IP to the device's MAC address.
- Manual static: configure the IP directly on the device. Make sure it's outside the DHCP pool.
Tip: DHCP reservation is safer — devices keep working even if you replace the router.
